Practice Profile

Neil’s practice focuses on commercial dispute resolution, particularly disputes relating to construction, arbitration, professional negligence and property.

He developed specific expertise in financial disputes during his time working in private practice as a dispute resolution solicitor for an award-winning boutique law firm and then an international law firm.

Neil called as a solicitor advocate while working in-house for a Danish global renewable energy company. He was involved in the negotiation of significant European wind farm projects. He also assisted in resolving high value disputes.

Neil is currently the course organiser for the construction law elective on the University of Edinburgh’s DPLP. He is WS Signet Accredited in commercial litigation, a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a Writer to the Signet.

Since calling to the Bar, Neil has appeared in the Sheriff Court, the Outer House of the Court of Session, the Lands Tribunal for Scotland, and arbitration proceedings.

Selected Cases

  • On Tower UK Limited v McLean (No.2) [2024] LTS 26

    Appeared at Proof for the Applicant, a telecoms infrastructure provider, and persuaded the Lands Tribunal to accept most of the Applicant’s proposed terms for a new Code agreement with the Respondents. The consideration ultimately determined by Tribunal was significantly less than sought by the Respondents.
