Darren called to the bar in 2025, having been awarded both the Faculty and Lord Hope Scholarships.
Prior to calling, Darren served as Law Clerk to the Inner House and subsequently as Law Clerk to the Lord Justice Clerk (Lady Dorrian). In these roles, he assisted senior members of the judiciary in a wide range of appellate matters across public law, commercial law, clinical and professional negligence, regulation and crime. His work involved assisting in the preparation and analysis of many high-profile and complex cases.
Before working as a law clerk, Darren trained and practised as a solicitor at a Glasgow-based firm specialising in asylum and immigration law. His practice also included reparation and employment law. He appeared regularly in the First-tier and Upper Tribunals and acted as instructing solicitor in numerous judicial reviews and statutory appeals in the Court of Session.
Through these roles, Darren has developed significant experience in public law and, in recent years, has gained a growing interest and knowledge in media law.

Additional Information
During his time as a solicitor, Darren regularly contributed to the Journal of the Law Society of Scotland (see, for example, Immigration: When human rights meet national security | Law Society of Scotland). He also contributed to the SCOLAG immigration update on a quarterly basis and wrote case updates for the immigration and asylum database, Free Movement (Darren Cox - Free Movement).
