Better the Devil You Know CPD Seminar Series 6th June 202

In Person at the Mackenzie Building, Old Assembly Close, High Street Edinburgh and simultaneously online via Teams

Shaun McPhee - Domestic Abuse: Civil remedies for Victims

Arnot Manderson Advocates are looking forward to welcoming two new members, Gavin Dingley and Shaun McPhee (pictured below) to the Stable upon their calling to the Bar at the end of June.  To mark Shaun’s transition from “Devil” to “Advocate” Arnot Manderson Advocates are pleased to dust off our snappiest ever CPD event title and invite you to: “Better the Devil You Know”.  We are pleased to present our first Seminar in the series as hybrid events again this year.  Those who are able can join us in person and enjoy a glass of wine afterwards whilst those who need to or prefer to can join from the comfort of their home or office.

Besides giving you an introduction to the freshest legal talent to reach the Bar you will be treated to an informative and topical CPD talk updating you on a subject matter which will exemplify the full service nature of Arnot Manderson.  Our first talk this year will start at 3pm, will feature a Q&A Session and conclude at 4pm with a brief wine reception for those joining us at the venue.

This seminar is accredited by the Faculty of Advocates (and by extension by the Law Society) for one hour of – free – CPD.  These events are free but places are limited and early booking is recommended.  If you wish to attend simply use the booking links below.  If you intend to join us online you will be sent a Teams link in advance.

Programme:

2:40pm              Registration – Tea & Coffee

3:00pm              Welcome and Introduction from event chair Nicola Gilchrist, Advocate and Stable Director.

3:05pm              Shaun McPhee – Domestic Abuse: Civil remedies for Victims – Recent years have seen significant efforts to extend and strengthen protections for victims of domestic abuse.  The Domestic Abuse (Protection) (Scotland) Act 2021 created domestic abuse protection orders – but the relevant provisions are still not in force.  This seminar will survey the existing legal options, to protect and compensate victims of domestic abuse.  It will be of interest to those working in and across family, personal injury, criminal justice, housing, and social work.

3:45pm               Q&A session and closing remarks then drinks!
