Nicola Gilchrist – Scottish Women’s Aid legal training

Nicola Gilchrist, of Arnot Manderson Advocates, together with Di Moore of Black Chambers, delivered training to members of Scottish Women’s Aid Highlands and Islands network.

The full day event held at the Highland Hospice in Inverness on 19 June 2014 was attended by twelve delegates all keen to learn about legal remedies that exist for victims of domestic abuse.

Di discussed the law relating to domestic abuse, with an emphasis on protective measures and interdicts, and the structure of the court system with a view to explaining proceedings in the criminal courts. Nicola also presented two talks, one on the Children’s Hearing system and the other on matters arising from parental rights and responsibilities including orders for contact, residence and cross-border issues.

A lively discussion took place with delegates bringing their experiences of helping women, young people and children who have been the victims of domestic abuse.  Similar events are planned for later in the year.
