Kate Dowdalls QC, rated Band 1 Silk by Chambers 2015, will deliver the update on family law cases at the Family Law Association Annual Conference at St Andrews on 21st November. During 2014, Kate appeared for the pursuer in M v M [2014] CSOH 136 in which orders were granted for payment of a capital sum and periodical allowance, relying on the principles in ss 9(1)(b), (c), (d) and (e) of the Family Law (Scotland) Act 1985. She also appeared, with junior Ceit Anna Macleod, for the petitioners in S Petitioner 2014 Fam LR 23, successfully opposing an appeal to the Inner House against the making of an adoption order. More recently, in Donaldson v Donaldson [2014] CSIH 88, she represented the mother in an appeal by the father against relocation of their child to the United States. The father’s appeal was refused. Her knowledge and experience of recent family law cases should help to generate debate and discussion at what is always a lively and informative conference.
