ARNOT MANDERSON’S DOUBLE CONFERENCE SUCCESS
Scotland’s largest full service stable Arnot Manderson Advocates registered a notable double success last month by putting on two well attended and highly regarded Conferences within the space of ten days.
First up was the Arnot Manderson Family Law Group Annual Conference held in the leafy grounds of Perth Racecourse on Friday 12th September. A large and knowledgeable crowd attended the Group’s 4th Annual Conference which was chaired by Kate Dowdalls QC and included presentations from Jonathan Mitchell QC on Cohabitation, Marie H. Clark on Child Abduction and Laura Thomson on Surrogacy. Nicola Gilchrist covered Forced Marriages in Scotland and Stuart Buchanan dealt with missing evidence in family cases. There was also a presentation from Practice Manager Andrew Sutherland and a lively Q&A session.
This was closely followed on 22nd September by Arnot Manderson’s 6th Annual Conference where this year the subject was Mental Health & Incapacity Law. The event was chaired by Joanna Cherry QC and Dr Marian Gilmore QC and the large audience were treated to talks by stable members with expertise in this area, David Cobb, David Massaro, Kenneth Campbell QC, Jonathan Brodie QC and Jane Patrick. There were also presentations by distinguished guest speakers Professor Lindsay Thomson, Medical Director, The State Hospital and Dr John Crichton, Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist.
The conference also acted as a curtain-raiser for the launch in autumn 2014 of the second edition of Mental Health and Scots Law in Practice, edited by Joanna Cherry QC and Professor Lindsay Thomson, to which Arnot Manderson members have contributed. The event generated a great deal of positive comment on social media with one delegate tweeting: Great day @amadvocates Mental health and incapacity law ran seamlessly thanks to their clerk and the speakers #mentalhealthlaw #awi.
Andrew Sutherland, Arnot Manderson’s Practice Manager commented: “These events are carefully designed to give delegates CPD provision and updates that are interesting, informative and most importantly of practical use in their practice area. It is clear that the stable achieved notable success with these well established conferences and it is a mark of the strength and depth in Arnot Manderson that we are able to draw on a number of experienced advocates from a range of areas of practice to provide talks of the highest order.
We are committed to continue providing CPD events that meet the needs of all members of the legal profession across the country.”
