AM Advocates welcome Laura Thomson, Advocate

Arnot Manderson Advocates has welcomed Laura Thomson to the stable following her admission to the Faculty of Advocates today.

Before being called to the Bar, Laura held the office of Advocate Depute, and prosecuted many high-profile, difficult and anxious cases before the High Court. These included murder, culpable homicide, death by dangerous driving, rape and cases involving the sexual abuse of children.  Before her appointment as an Advocate Depute she held a number of specialised legal posts within Crown Office, including the investigation of sudden, suspicious and unexpected deaths and the conduct of Fatal Accident Inquiries.

Laura brings to her civil practice considerable advocacy experience, sound judgement, and a meticulous approach to case preparation.  She has extensive experience of preparing and presenting cases which are both factually and legally complex, and in which expert evidence has been led. Laura has a particular strength in working with, and taking evidence from, children and vulnerable adults, and a keen interest in cases which involve alleged contraventions of human rights.

Laura had the opportunity when devilling to develop her knowledge of family and child law (in particular, cases brought under the Hague Convention), professional negligence and personal injury work, alongside her interests in public law and human rights.

Alongside her civil practice, Laura maintains her interest in Fatal Accident Inquiries, and in Criminal Trials and Appeals.

Andrew Sutherland, Practice Manager at Arnot Manderson Advocates, said “We are delighted to welcome Laura to the Stable.  Her considerable courtroom experience together with her passionate and involved approach mean she will be highly valued by both solicitors and their clients alike.

Her interest in the fields of Public Law, Crime and Personal Injury work will naturally strengthen our depth in these areas and she is a welcome addition to our highly respected Family law Group.

The range of Laura’s interests and the areas in which she will practice make her a perfect fit for the largest full service stable at the Scottish Bar.”

Laura will be speaking at Arnot Manderson’s “Better the Devil You Know” CPD Event in Edinburgh on 20th June.  Visit the Events section of this site for details of how reserve one of the limited places left at this event.
