Re-appointment of five AM Standing Juniors

Arnot Manderson Advocates are delighted to announce the re-appointment of five of its members, Hugh Olson, Arabella Tait, Gordon Balfour, BJ Gill and Catherine Smith, as Standing Junior Counsel to the Office of the Advocate General in Scotland.  Standing Juniors are instructed to act for the UK Government in Scotland in a wide variety of work.

The appointments to the UK Government’s Legal Team in Scotland are Gordon Balfour who has been re-appointed as a Standing Junior Counsel to the Ministry of Defence.  Catherine Smith who was initially appointed in 2012 has been appointed to deal with Home Office matters.  BJ Gill moves from the Home Office, to HMRC.  Hugh Olson, a Standing Junior since 2006 and Arabella Tait who was first appointed in 2012 join the General Pool and will be available to work for all UK Government departments, as will the other appointees.

The appointments are for three years, and took effect from 1st August.

Commenting on the news Arnot Manderson Practice Manager Andrew Sutherland said “The re-appointment of these five highly regarded Juniors is richly deserved.  We currently have a further three stable members, David Cobb, Paul Harvey and Simon Crabb, who are currently presenting cases in the Immigration Courts on behalf of the Advocate General and the Stable is rightfully proud to have so many of its Juniors representing the Advocate General in Scotland.

Taken alongside the four stable members currently serving as Standing Juniors to the Scottish Government these important appointments reflect the strength of Scotland’s largest full-service Stable, across a number of disciplines but particularly in the field of Public Law.”
