Arnot Manderson Advocates are pleased to announce that Dr Marian Gilmore Q.C. has commenced her appointment as a Legal Member (i.e. convener) of the Pensions Appeal Tribunals for Scotland, a position appointed by the Lord President of the Court of Session.

The Pensions Appeal Tribunal for Scotland hears appeal from forces’ personnel about the refusal of forces pensions or the level of such awards.

The Part-Time position adds to an impressive list of such appointments for Dr Gilmore QC who also sits as convener of the Mental Health Tribunals Scotland and of the Police Appeals Tribunal.

Arnot Manderson Practice Manager Andrew Sutherland commented “This is another prestigious appointment for one of our most experienced silks.  The position really fits in well with Marian’s back ground in medical negligence, personal injury and psychiatric law as well as with her considerable aviation expertise and experience of military life.

On a personal note I’m delighted that it is a Part Time position which will allow her to continue with her busy, wide ranging and well respected court practice.”

The nature of Marian’s highly specialised practice complements and consolidates her invaluable technical expertise acquired in her significant career before coming to the Bar. Marian is chiefly instructed in cases concerning clinical negligence, aviation, mental health, personal injury (particularly high value claims such as those involving serious head injuries), occupational stress, disciplinary and regulatory hearings, and fatal accident inquiries. She regularly applies her in-depth knowledge of medical, pharmaceutical, and aeronautical engineering matters in the course of her work.

Marian’s experience as a Mental Health Tribunal convenor has provided insight into psychiatric disorders and their treatment. Her aviation practice in particular has required her to analyse considerable foreign law material in a variety of languages. She also draws upon her first-hand experience of military matters: Marian’s husband was at one time an aeronautical engineering officer in the armed services.
