Nicola Gilchrist speaks at Womans Day Event

AM Advocates member Nicola Gilchrist was invited by the Focused Women Network in Scotland to take part in a panel discussion at RBS as part of the network’s International Women’s Day event. The vision of the  Focused Women Network in Scotland is to attract, retain and develop female talent in RBS.  Eighty delegates watched a screening of “Missrepresentation”, an award winning documentary on the representation of women in the media before taking part in a lively debate.  The panel, chaired by Lindsay Law, the chair of the network featured Nicola Gilchrist in her role as an advocate and Director of Scottish Women’s Aid, Jane C Woods of Changing People, a writer, coach and trainer specialising in women’s issues and issues relating to change and Suzanne Doyle-Morris PhD, founder and CEO at inclusIQ and author of “Beyond the Boys’ Club: Strategies for Achieving Career Success as a Woman Working in a Male Dominated Field” and “Female Breadwinners: How They Make Relationships Work and Why They are the Future of the Modern Workforce”. The panel discussed the issues raised in the film including the lack of women in significant board and political positions and the manner in which the media responds to women’s achievements and reports women’s success.  The panel tackled issues as to what we can do to improve women’s experiences and how to engage women in business by starting mentoring projects and networks.  For more information on “Missrepresentation” and the new documentary by the same team on how society is failing boys, “The Mask You Live In” see:  http://film.missrepresentation.org/ https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jensiebelnewsom/the-mask-you-live-in
