Iain G. Mitchell QC and Jonathan Mitchell QC both arrive from the former Murray Stable and with both having taken silk in 2002 they bring a wealth of experience at the highest level.  Iain G Mitchell has a practice which covers most areas of Private Law and he is particularly well respected for his work in IT and Intellectual Property Law.

Jonathan Mitchell QC also has a wide civil practice, including judicial review, administrative law, complex family issues, and commercial court work.  Jonathan joins the stable’s well established Family Law Group which now boasts two silks following the recent elevation of Kate Dowdalls QC.

Also joining from the Murray Stable are David Ross Macleod and Piya Muqit.  David is a Chartered Arbitrator and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.  He is regularly instructed as a party appointed arbitrator in Institutional and Ad-Hoc arbitrations and also accepts instructions to appear as Counsel before arbitral tribunals.  David is also instructed in criminal cases including General crime, Regulatory crime and Health and Safety Prosecutions.  He has a particular focus on issues triggered by Financial Crime, Commercial Wrongdoing and Bribery and Corruption cases.

Piya is a is specialist in asylum and immigration law, judicial review, child law and the international law of human rights and has appeared in both the Inner and Outer House of the Court of Session, the Employment Tribunal, Immigration and Asylum Chamber of the First-tier and Upper Tribunal, Magistrates, Crown Court, the House of Lords and the Privy Council.  She currently works for Freedom from Torture, the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture as their senior Legal Advisor.

Another silk joining the Stable’s ranks is G. Jack Davidson QC.  Jack is a vastly experienced senior who enjoys a busy criminal practice with particular emphasis on Criminal Trials, Health and Safety prosecutions and Sports cases.  He also sits as a Temporary Sheriff in courts across Scotland.

Finally the Stable welcomes the return to the Bar of Gail Hawthorne.  Gail originally called in 2002 and offers agents and clients more than 20 years of experience as a solicitor and Advocate.  Gail has a strong track record in advising on both transactional and litigated matters and provides guidance for companies, insurers, brokers and in-house counsel for a number of large multinational organisations.  Her practice covers Commercial law, Employment cases, European and Competition work, Insurance Law, Judicial Review, Personal Injury, Professional Discipline & Regulatory Law and Professional Negligence cases.

Liz Manderson, practice manager of Arnot Manderson Advocates, said “We are delighted to welcome these six new members to the Stable.

“Gail was one of the founding members of the Stable when it was formed in 2008 and we are delighted she has chosen to re-join us upon her return to the Bar.

Iain Mitchell and Jonathan Mitchell offer unparalleled experience across a full range of civil matters and Jonathan is a great addition to the well established Arnot Manderson Family Law Group.

Jack and David will naturally strengthen our depth in the criminal field and Piya brings unique experience of Asylum, Immigration and Human Rights matters

Each of these counsel will be highly valued by both solicitors and their clients alike and together their addition further enhances our reputation as both the largest and the only full service stable at the Scottish Bar.”
